Orlando mosquitoes are not a minor annoyance
From March through November — and honestly, most of the year — mosquitoes own Central Florida evenings. They breed in anything holding still water, rest in shady vegetation during the day, and bite hardest at dawn and dusk. If you have a retention pond, a lake, or just low spots that hold rain, your yard is producing them on a schedule.
Spraying the air when you see them does almost nothing. Real mosquito control works the life cycle: remove the breeding sites, treat the resting areas, and keep the pressure down all season.
Our three-part approach
First, the water audit. We walk your yard and find where they are breeding: plant saucers, clogged gutters, bromeliad cups, French drains, AC drip lines, low spots, tarps, toys. Most yards have five to ten breeding sites the homeowner never noticed. We dump, drain, or treat what cannot be drained.
Second, the resting areas. Adult mosquitoes spend the day in cool, shady, humid vegetation — dense shrubs, tall grass, under decks. We treat those harborage zones so the adults resting there do not survive to bite at dusk.
Third, the season plan. One treatment fades in weeks under Florida sun and rain. Seasonal barrier treatments, timed through the breeding months, keep the population down continuously instead of letting it rebound between visits.
What you can do between visits
Dump standing water weekly — a bottle cap of water breeds mosquitoes. Trim shrubs for airflow, mow regularly, and run a patio fan when you sit out: mosquitoes are weak fliers and avoid moving air. We will give you the full checklist after your inspection.
How It Works: Our Mosquito Process
- Free inspection. We walk your yard for the two things that matter: breeding sites and resting areas. Most yards have five to ten breeding spots the homeowner never noticed.
- Source reduction. We dump, drain, or treat what cannot be drained: saucers, gutters, bromeliad cups, French drains, AC drip lines, low spots, tarps, toys.
- Barrier treatment. We treat the shady, humid resting areas where adult mosquitoes spend the day: dense shrubs, tall grass, under decks.
- Seasonal schedule. Repeat visits through the breeding months, because Florida sun and rain break a single treatment down in weeks.
- Your checklist. You get the between-visit habits that keep pressure down: weekly water dumping, trimming, and mowing.
Where Orlando mosquitoes actually breed
Everyone knows about standing water. Fewer people know how little it takes: a bottle cap of water can breed mosquitoes, and in Florida heat they go from egg to biter in about a week. That is why the sneaky sites matter more than the obvious ones.
The usual suspects: plant saucers, clogged gutters, kids' toys, tarps, and low spots that hold rain. The sneaky ones: bromeliad cups, which are practically mosquito nurseries; French drain outlets; AC drip lines; birdbaths; pool and boat covers that sag and hold water. During the inspection we find yours specifically, because every yard's list is different, and we show you which ones you can eliminate permanently versus which ones need regular attention.
Planning for outdoor events
Backyard weddings, graduation parties, holiday cookouts: Orlando hosts a lot of life outdoors, and mosquitoes do not RSVP. A timed knockdown treatment a day or two before the event drops the biting population sharply for the evening.
Be realistic about what it does: it reduces mosquitoes dramatically in your yard for the event window, it does not create a permanent force field, and new mosquitoes drift in from neighboring properties. For the evening itself, combine the treatment with patio fans, which mosquitoes struggle to fly against, and repellent for guests. Tell us the date when you book and we time the treatment for maximum effect.
Misting systems: an honest take
You have probably seen installed misting systems: nozzles around the patio that spray on a timer. Here is the straight talk. They do knock mosquitoes down in the spray zone on schedule. They also spray on schedule whether mosquitoes are there or not, drift is hard to control, they need regular maintenance and refills, and the upfront cost is significant.
Professional barrier service takes a different approach: targeted treatments to breeding and resting areas on a seasonal schedule, adjusted to actual pressure. We do not sell misting systems, so we have no stake in the comparison. For most Orlando yards, the barrier program delivers more consistent results for less money, but large or heavily wooded lots sometimes benefit from discussing both options. Ask us during the inspection and we will give you the honest read for your property.
